Therapeutic Action
Chondroprotective, anti-inflammatory, joint regenerating drug.
Indications for Use
To be used in cats and dogs to treat primary and secondary inflammatory arthritis and other inflammatory processes of joints, such as tendonitis, synovitis and non-infectious arthritis.
Used to treat chondropathies, hydrarthrosis and osteoarthritis. It has joint anti-inflammatory properties and it functions as an adjuvant to promote fracture healing. It aids articular cartilage regeneration: By stimulating the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans.
It has a chondropotective effect: When administered orally, CS has a chondroprotective effect: it stimulates the synthesis of proteoglycans and collagen by chondrocytes, it normalizes synovial fluid and increases its viscosity. It also inhibits cartilage-degrading enzymes.
Combination therapy with NSAIDs: Synergy in the treatment of some types of acute pain. Since the anti-inflammatory activity of glucosamine is different from that of the NSAIDs, it is possible that the combined action of both reduces the dose of NSAIDs required to produce an anti-exudative effect.
